2.How is this different from SingTel MobileMail?

While both solutions offer secured email/calendaring, the key differences are:
BlackBerry

  • Push Functionality - Unique to mobile emails that 'pushes' any incoming email to the BlackBerry handheld.
  • Proprietary Devices - Uses the BlackBerry devices with its own interface. Easy for administration & troubleshoot as it is essentially one type of device. However, have a roadmap towards multiple devices such as mobile phones and integrated PDAs.
  • Utilizes Triple DES / AES encryption for end-to-end encryption.
  • Requires some configuration of firewall ports.

MobileMail

  • Cost Effective - Typically less expensive to deploy due to low initial setup investment.
  • Multiple Devices - Users can use their existing Microsoft PocketPC or Palm integrated PDAs such as XDAs and Treos.
  • Utilizes Advance Encryption Standard (AES - a more advanced 'version' of Triple DES) for end-to-end encryption.
  • Uses existing firewall ports.
3.What type of encryption does BlackBerry use?
BlackBerry uses the Triple Data Encryption Standard (DES) / Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), an advanced encryption standard which allows data to remain encrypted at all points between BlackBerry handheld and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
4.Do I have to purchase another SIM to use this service?
No. You may subscribe for BlackBerry service as a value-added service (VAS) to your existing SIM card.
